Joy Buolamwini was inspired to work on computer science by the MIT Robot called Kismet. She was working on facial recognition when she noticed that the software didn't recognize her face. She founded the Algorithmic Justice League which has been discovering gender and racial disrimination in the software of large companies.Since then, she made it her lifelong mission to work on eliminating what is called "The Coded Gaze".
